Face Powder
As the name implies, face powder is a powder applied to the face.
Translucent or non-coloured powder sets and protects any make-up which is already on the face, particularly foundation and eyeshadow. It can be used to give an even finish to the skin and reduces the appearance of oiliness and shine. You can also use it to catch stray eyeshadow if you're applying a large amount or if your eyeshadow is prone to going all over your cheeks To do this, apply lots of loose powder beneath your eyes before putting on your eyeshadow. When you're done, brush off the extra powder and it should also get rid of any eyeshadow that has fallen onto it.
Pigmented powder can be used as a foundation or base on its own. As with foundations, there is a wide range of pigments and colours to suit different skin tones. A powder foundation can feel lighter than some liquid foundations. Throughout history, women have been using powders as a base, particularly when it was fashionable to be pale.
Powder can come pressed or loose. Pressed powder is more compact and easy to carry around, but it can result in a streaky coverage due to the oils that are added to hold the powder together. Loose powder lasts longer than pressed and is preferred by make-up artists.
Powder also protects the skin from the sun and other weather conditions.

Puffs
Powder puffs come in a myriad of sizes, shapes and colours, but the most important thing to consider is the texture. A medium-textured puff made out of chenille is the best to apply powder. The fine-textured puffs that usually come with powder can cause streaking. They may also actually remove foundation. If the hairs on the puff are too long, you'll get fuzz on your face. It's best to use a puff if you tend to shine excessively or when using a powder foundation.
To use: Do not apply too much powder at once. Better to blot oil later in the day than have a caked, overdone look to your face.
Brushes
A brush allows you to apply a lighter amount of powder than a puff. Large and fluffy, powder brushes can be used with both loose and pressed powder formulations.
To use: Dip the brush in the powder and tap it to shake off loose powder. Then brush the powder evenly over your face in downward strokes. Follow the direction your facial hair grows in order to get the most even application.
